In 2004, a European Directive on Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products (2004/24/EC) was introduced. This new THMRS requires quality and safety of the product to be demonstrated, with efficacy being based on the traditional use of the herbal medicine, provided the claimed pharmacological effects are plausible. St. John’s Wort is a traditional herbal medicinal product used to relieve the symptoms of slightly low mood and mild anxiety. Exclusively based upon long standing use as a traditional remedy. St. John’s Wort is also known as Hypericum perforatum. St. John’s Wort tablets are manufactured from the finest aerial parts of St. John’s Wort plant. The plant itself, characterised by its beautiful yellow flowers, has been used traditional for hundreds of years by continental Europeans, and its usages are documented as far back as Hippocrates. Each film-coated Ucalm® tablet contains 300mg of extract from St. John’s Wort aerial parts (Hypericum perforatum L.), equivalent to 1500-2100mg of St. John’s Wort herb.
